Placenta After Birth – Colour And Texture

Placenta After Birth - Colour And Texture - Postpartum - 2023

Your Placenta has a springy texture similar to the heart, but more sponge-like.

The fetal surface of the placenta should be shiny, grey and translucent enough that the colour of the underlying maroon villous tissue may be seen.

At term, the typical umbilical cord is 55 to 60 cm in length,3 with a diameter of 2.0 to 2.5 cm.
