Let’s talk about evidence-based best practice.
1. The cervix tells them absolutely *nothing* about when you will go into labor at this point.
2. You *repeatedly* said no and were continually pressured. This actually is a violation of consent, even though you eventually gave in. Pressuring you until you give in is a violation of consent.
3. You can actually feel the head vs the bottom, typically, from an external exam. Feeling and identifying fetal parts externally is something that is taught.
I work closely with physicians and residents at a teaching hospital as well as having docs for parents. If I’m being completely honest, I have a very strong suspicion that all of this was just an effort to get a pelvic done for the resident. Had absolutely nothing to do with you, your needs, your care, etc.
