    It can be very alienating to have a term baby in NICU. My baby boy was 10lb, 42 weeks and in NICU as a result of brain damage.
    I found the entire system is designed for preemies, even the language used by nurses and doctors seems to revolve around premature babies.

    I know the other parents used to look at my huge baby and wish they were in my shoes, when their little baby was sitting at 2lb. I’d always think to myself, ‘if you actually knew, we have the most critically ill baby in this unit’. It’s a strange experience and while I know parents of premature babies don’t get much warning either, I guess it’s something in giving birth at term, healthy pregnancy, then having the rug pulled out from under you that feels like a further cruelty.
