Our family can relate. We had an emergency transfer to a children’s hospital at 39 weeks because of a cyanotic spell and constant desats. We spent 1 week in the NICU. His doctor there always called him “big dude” because he was the biggest baby there. We were transferred to PICU after his heart defect diagnosis.
It doesn’t mean that our experience is any less than anyone else’s. It’s real, raw, and incredibly scary. We had a daughter at home too who didn’t understand either. She just knew his heart was broken, and he needed to have a surgery to fix it. The wait to bring him home was so hard on her.
Thankfully we were able to find hospital provided housing for our family so she could be close to us while we were there. The hospital sent home gifts to her for being a “super hero sibling”. She really was so brave during that time.
Even though this last week has seemed like eternity for you, it will not last forever. Your daughter will understand sooner than later.
Praying for strength for your family, minimal complications for your little one, and guidance for the doctors 💙
