6 Remedies For Constipation During Pregnancy - Pregnancy - 2023

Let’s talk about 💩… or lack thereof. ⁣⁣⁣

It’s estimated that up to 50% of pregnant women experience some sort of constipation during their pregnancy (gimme a 🖐🏽 in the comments if that was or is you). It’s not fun, and couple it with the fact that a laxative is not an option…double whammy

To get things moving…try adding the foods above (and other high fiber foods) to your diet. If that’s not doing the trick, you can also try: ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣
1) Drinking more water⁣ 💦 ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣
2) Getting more exercise ⁣🏃🏾‍♀️ ⁣

⁣3) Checking your prenatal vitamins. Ironically, many of the supplements and medications that do a pregnant body good (prenatal vitamins, calcium and iron supplements, and antacids) can exacerbate constipation. So check with your practitioner about alternatives (such as slow-release iron supplements) or adjustments in dosages until the situation improves. Also ask your practitioner about taking a magnesium supplement to help fight constipation. Taking it at night may relax achy muscles and help you sleep better, too.⁣ ⁣⁣

4) Doing your kegels (this is good for pushing too!). ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
5) Definitely invest in a squatty potty. This thing is a life changer and pooping any other way is just well…uncivilized haha.

  1. I’m on my third pregnancy and surprisingly have had no constipation issues. I’m actually more regular than before I was pregnant. I did just find out I’m anemic though and have to take iron supplements so I’m sure that will back me up real nice. 😂😂

  2. I had horrible constipation… the thing that worked was a TON of chia seeds. Remember to always pre soak them and add way more than you think you should. I would have them in a morning smoothie and an afternoon yogurt bowl. That, plus 2 stool softeners a day kept me regular. Hope this helps!
