Weight gain and weight loss after pregnancy is forever a part of each other. There are some women who lose weight once they have already popped their baby out but there are also some of those who do not have that much success. If anything, they have gained more weight unexplainably.
Weight Gain Issues
If you think you have gained more weight since you have given birth to your little one, there are two things you need to look into-your eating habits and water retention. If you are still eating for two or you still have the appetite when you were pregnant, you will naturally gain pounds. Many women think it is okay for them to eat just like what they do during pregnancy because they have breastfeeding calorie burning process to back them up.
Breastfeeding really burns calories. Many reports say that a breastfeeding mom can burn a maximum of 500 calories in one day. However, you should cut back on food consumption if you want this to have any effect on your chances of losing weight. Eat only 5 small meals in a day. Small meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner and 2 small snacks.
Another issue that is a problem nowadays for new moms is water retention. Usually, the excess fluid used during pregnancy by the body is flushed out in just a few weeks after giving birth. However, if it is taking forever to be purged from your system, it can be due to water retention. What you are eating can be the culprit to this. Starchy carbohydrates such as those considered as “white foods” can hold on to more water molecules. Salty foods also increase water retention. Ditch these foods and opt for whole grain foods with natural salt sources. This will help flush out water and you can considerably shrink in size.
