Pregnancy Weight Gain – Arrgh!!! Encouragement Please!?

By New Moms Forum, January 26, 2010

Okay so I was a healthy weight before I got pregnant and at my last check up I was 24 weeks along and had gained 20 pounds so far in my pregnancy. She said it was fine because I drink lots of water, I eat healthy and I try my best to stay active. I asked her how much more I should expect to gain and she told me 16 to 20 more pounds!!!!!
Well I am now 27 weeks and I have gained another 5 pounds!!! It seems like my weight just continues to jump!
It’s just depressing to watch the scale continue to go up when so many women at the end of their pregnancy gain a total weight gain that is less than I already have and I still have a few weeks to go.
With my first pregnancy I gained 65 pounds but I was eating all the time and I was eating bad foods / junk food, I didn’t drink my water and I was not very active.
With this pregnancy I have been trying really hard to be healthy and eat right, drink my water and stay active and I’m still gaining a lot more weight than I was hoping to.

I know exactly how you feel! I’m 22 weeks and I’ve also gained 20 lbs. I feel huge. I was normal weight before I got pregnant now I am so big! My doctor hasn’t said anything to me about my weight gain but it’s really depressing! They told me to expect to gain another 1lb per week til the end. I eat healthy and I have cut back on snacking and I drink a lot of fluids… I just don’t get how I have gained so much weight. It’s really tough. If you want a pregnancy buddy send me an email, we can talk about stuff or vent. I’m due 1 month after you.

Don’t worry about it. I was in the same situation as you. With my first boy, I gained almost 70 pounds and with my second I gained almost 40. You will lose it fast. It could be that the baby is bigger or you have more amniotic fluid. Just try to eat often and eat small portions. Just remember, its whats important for baby first, and then you can work on your body after.

It’s okay that your gaining that wait because that means you are still doing the best to prepare that baby and you to have a better healthier life because you did your best to stay healthy and still it should be an everyday thing that you should always do.

Dont stress about it too much. Some women just get bigger than others. My friend always gets huge with her pregnancies, and the last one all she craved was fruits and salads and she still gained almost 70 lbs. She gained the same amount with her first pregnancy and she craved junk during that one, so I dont think it makes too big a difference in what you eat…you may just be one that gains more than others. And that is just fine, as long as you are healthy and baby is healthy. you should be gaining 1-2 lbs per week, and it seems like you are right on track. It will come off after the baby is born, until then just enjoy the pregnancy!!
