Can The Moods In Pregnancy Affect The Baby Or Early Child Development?
Someone mentioned it to me earlier, but I don’t know if it’s true, because there are times when the pregnancy itself is what causes mood swings. I just want to know what you think of this.

I am queen of mood swings and with my first daughter that concerned me a lot too but as we all know hormones are going crazy when your pregnant so I think its all normal.
I recently read an article that stated mother’s who are very stressed during pregnancy tend to have a baby that are more “stressed” out for their first year of life. Not sure if I buy it or not – but interesting. Another study my friend in medical school gave me was a study of women in Israel in war zones. Those women who lived under extreme stress in war zones had a higher rate of babies who eventually developed schizophrenia. I wasn’t so convinced because there were a lot of confounding factors with that study. But that was EXTREME stress – not pregnancy stress.
I haven’t heard about mood but more about stress levels. I have been told that rates of ADHD and other childhood mental disorder are higher for children born from mothers that had a high rate of stress during pregnancy! My daughter has ADHD and a stress disorder and I was highly stressed with her pregnancy. Dad wasn’t the nicest and we soon brook up after she was born. My children I have had since her show no signs of ADHD and other disorders plus I was not stressed during their pregnancy’s. I have often wondered if this caused my daughter to have this issue. There is no telling really though! Here are some sites on this issue to look at!http://www.womensmentalhealth.org/posts/…http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/article…http://www.swedish.org/19385.cfmhttp://socialanxietydisorder.about.com/b…http://psychcentral.com/news/2008/08/21/…http://cherished79.wordpress.com/2008/08…http://www.drspock.com/article/0,1510,61…http://womenshealth.about.com/cs/pregnan…http://www.marchofdimes.com/pnhec/159_52…http://www.mindpub.com/art332.htm
Hope that helps and try not to worry because ultimately only one person knows what are children are likely to inherit or receive from us. Good luck!
I’ve heard of alot of people guarding their babies from stress when in the womb!! And it has been proven that children develope quicker intellectually if they have stimuli in the womb (music of talking). So yes i do believe that stress and anger can have a negative effect (although many will argue that point)
However if your just having a bad day I don’t think it will ruin the childs life!
